1. Team Communication: Hive

  • Hive is a great project management platform, but it also has a Hive chat feature that allows us to communicate with each other individually or in a group, or even about a specific project. Hive also offers video chat meetings. Hive integrates with other business applications, like Google Drive, which allows for easy file sharing.
  • The downside of Hive is that the interface can take a little while to get used to. Because it is a project management platform, there is a lot to take in and learn about the software.

2. Document Sharing: Google Drive

  • Google Drive is great for document sharing because it is compatible with most devices and provides an easy way for us to share documents with each other and collaboratively edit them as a team. It also has a comment section which allows for us to have open discussion on projects.
  • One con for Google Drive is that it requires an internet connection. Without an internet connection, the changes we make are only visible on our own devices, not all synced devices.

3. Version Control: GitHub

  • GitHub allows for collaborative coding, which means multiple people can work on the same piece of code at the same time. It also allows us to easily back up all of our work.
  • However, GitHub is another web-based platform, so you need internet connection in order to work.

4. Prototyping: Figma

  • Figma as a prototyping software allows real-time collaboration, meaning we can edit files together at the same time. It also allows for comments, which means we can provide comments on each other’s designs.
  • Unfortunately, Figma is a Cloud-based software. Although it can be used on almost any device, it requires an internet connection

5. Time Tracking: Hive

  • Hive also allows us to track our time by action. You can either record timesheets manually, or the software will autofill it for you. Because we are already using Hive for communication and project management, that’s one less tool you need to switch back and forth between.
  • Unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier, Hive’s interface takes some time to get used to.

6. Project Management: Hive

  • Hive is a versatile piece of software. As I noted above, it has features like communication and time tracking, which allows us to work without switching from one tool to another. Hive has various project layouts, so that we can visualize our different projects easily. It integrates with more than 1,000 other business applications, which means it’s very easy to use with things like Google Drive.
  • As mentioned above, Hive does have a bit of a learning curve when it comes to navigating the software, but once we have this figured out it offers many features.

7. Code Testing: Jest

  • Jest is one of the most popular JavaScript testing frameworks because it is relatively simple to use. It’s easy to install and works as a single, independent framework. It has an easy learning curve and is backed by a number of big-name companies, like Facebook and Spotify.
  • The only downside is that it doesn’t support many libraries and toolings.

8. Digital Marketing Analytics: Google Analytics and Looker Studio

  • These two tools work together, as Google Analytics will collect data about our websites and Looker Studio will compile that data into understandable information, using graphs and charts. It’s easy to customize the looks of these reports, and Looker Studio has an easy-to-use interface. It also integrates with Google Drive.
  • The only downside is that all Google platforms are popular, making them susceptible to spammers and hackers.

9. SEO: Google Analytics

  • Google Analytics allows us to track things like traffic-generating pages, conversions and more. It is a very popular tool for marketers, which is also its downside, since it appeals to spammers and hackers.

10. Page Speed Testing: PageSpeed

  • PageSpeed is a free browser add-on by Google that will test our website and grade it on a scale of 1 to 100. It’s a great tool because it grades sites for both mobile and desktop and provides some suggestions to minimize page loading time.
  • The best part about this tool it that it’s free to use!
